Esch2022 – Future Frequencies
Future Frequencies is an initiative developed and produced by creative studio battleROYAL Berlin for the opening ceremony of Esch2022 as European Capital of Culture. Under the musical direction of Matthew Herbert and Frank Wiedemann, twelve emerging musicians from various musical backgrounds were brought together to create a concert — successfully celebrating the diverse music scene of the Luxembourgish region.
Across a series of workshops, the local musicians created a unique 45-minute sound and video show, that premiered on Luxembourg’s biggest stage at Rockhal, along an impressive light installation. They were accompanied by more than a hundred musicians from the Esch/Alzette Conservatory of Music, the Ensemble à plectre municipal d’Esch/Alzette and a pop choir conducted by Priscila da Costa.
Future Frequencies will continue its quest to help shape the European soundscape of tomorrow. battleROYAL is offering the format to other cities and regions that want to discover, support and sustainably establish their emerging musicians.
